First Test Of NflightCam

I took the NflightCam flying for the first time today. The NflightCam is basically a portable/hemlet HD cam based on the Contour cams, but has been modified to capture audio from the plane's intercom system to further enhance the viewer's experience. The cam I have is the 1st generation NflightCam. There is a more recent version (NflightCam +) which has a lot of new enhancements such as a newer wider angle lens that got rid of the prop artifact, a removable audio cable, and the ability to hook it up to the TV via an HDMI cable to name a few.
I was very impressed with the camera's ease of use and the video/audio quality I got from it. I posted a YouTube video from today's flight which you can find below.

Total flying time!

Hello everyone,
I just want to clarify one thing. If you've listened to episode #0 of the FlyerCast you probably heard me say the I've logged about 70 hours since earning my PPL. What I meant was that my total flying time to date is about 70 hrs. Just wanted to clarify that issue with everyone.

It's AcroCamp Time!

As I sit on my desk reading through the enroute procedures' chapter in Jeppesen's IR textbook, my mind can't help but wonder to Ray Community Airport (57D) in Michigan. Why 57D might you ask?!..Well that's were a group of very cool and dedicated aviators and enthusiasts are gathered right now to film the 2nd installation of the independent feature film AcroCamp.

AcroCamp is the brainchild of Aviator/Podcaster/Filmaker Steve Tupper, who is the producer of the well known "Airspeed Podcast". It aims to document (in high definition video) the experience of 4 aviators as they undergo acro flying for the first time.

I tell ya...magic is happening @ 57D right now, and all of us aviation buffs get to tag along even if from a distance via the power of social media.

I can hardly wait to see how both Acrocamps 1 & 2 turn out.

Sporty's Flight Gear Mission Bag

I've been using a Nike back pack as a flight bag since I started my ppl training in 2006. But as time went by and my gear increased in number I felt the need to get a proper flight bag that was designed to house a headset, charts, flash lights, and other essential equipment that I take along while flying.

I finally settled on Sporty's flight gear mission bag. And I must say that I'm very satisfied with the purchase. The bag is sturdy and has a lot of pockets for storing the essential flight gear that I need. It also has the ability to have accessory pouches attached to it for more storage and expandability.

Instrument Rating Training

I decided to pursue the instrument ticket about 2 and a half months ago. Having earned my PPL in May 2010, I've logged about 10 hours of PIC since then (not much..I agree), but work and family have been keeping me busy. So in late June 2011, I decided to take the plunge and work on getting the IR. I've done 3.2hrs so far and I'm loving the training and the theory behind it!...I guess what they say is true after all, the IR makes you a better and safer pilot.

Because its currently the Holy Month of Ramadan( A month were Muslims fast during the daytime) my instructor and I fly during the night which is a magical experience all together. The air is cooler and the ride way smoother than it would be during the very hot and bumpy daytime.

So what have I done so far?...
Instrument Scan
Attitude flying
Standard rate turns, climbs and descends
Compass Turns
Constant speed climbs and descends

We're planning on doing partial panel training in the next flight lesson which is yet to be scheduled!!! In the meantime I'm hitting the books and having a ball learning the theoretical aspect of instrument flying.
